Late Night with Seth Meyers

Update, 7/22 9:39 AM PST: The band performed "Pups to Dust". Watch the performance below.

It has been announced that Modest Mouse will be the musical guests on Late Night with Seth Meyers this coming Tuesday, July 21st. Adam Sandler and Margaret Cho are the other guests for that evening.

As with most TV performances, it's sometimes hard to know if this will be pre-recorded, but seeing as how the band is performing in Brooklyn the following day, there is a good chance the date is accurate. If you're going to be in NY, there might still be tickets available for the taping.

Lastly, we've been slack with updates in the last few weeks, and our email seems to have been stuck (for a while). All the latest set lists and tour dates are in now, and we'll be back to regular posting as the tour continues. I'll also start making my way through a few months worth of emails.

Modest Mouse will be the first ever musical guests on The Late Late Show with James Corden

Update, 3/24 10:41 AM PST: It was filmed yesterday. If you were in the audience, let us know what was performed.

Craig Ferguson stepped down as the host of The Late Late show on December 19, 2014. His replacement, James Corden, debuted as host last night, interviewing Tom Hanks and Mila Kunis. There was no musical guest.

In a last minute announcement, Modest Mouse will be performing on the show tonight, making them the first musical guests on Corden's show. Tickets are unfortunately already sold out, and we're not even 100% sure if the show is being taped today, or if it has already. Other guests tonight are Patricia Arquette and Chris Pine.

The Late Late Show with James Corden airs at 12:35am ET / 11:35pm CT.

The band performs on CBS This Morning's Saturday Sessions

Update, 3/21 13:41 PM PST: It's been pointed out that the performance was pre-recorded at the Webster Hall in NY, probably before the show that night.

Modest Mouse performed live on CBS This Morning's Saturday Sessions, playing three songs off Strangers to Ourselves: "Lampshades on Fire", "Coyotes", and "The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box".

CBS also broadcast an interview with Isaac that had been filmed earlier at one of the Webster Hall performances. Anthony Mason spoke to Isaac shortly about the past 8 years, Eric Judy, and becoming popular.

Strangers to Ourselves officially released

At long last, Modest Mouse's sixth studio album, Strangers to Ourselves, has officially been released.

The band will mark this event by performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon later today, before closing out the rest of the week with two further shows in New York. Isaac will also be on SiriusXMU today between 5 and 7pm ET with Jenny Eliscu.

To celebrate the release, Modest Mouse is also offering 1250 free copies of their second single The Ground Walks, With Time in a Box along with any new orders of Strangers to Ourselves ordered from Glacial Pace. If you've already purchased the album, Glacial Pace is now also selling the single separately.

Isaac also gave an interview to the Wall Street Journal, published yesterday, in which he spoke about, among other things, his dislike for The Fruit That Ate Itself and indie labels.

Modest Mouse reveal the track list for Strangers to Ourselves, stream The Best Room

Modest Mouse has finally revealed the complete tracklist for Strangers to Ourselves:

  1. Strangers To Ourselves
  2. Lampshades On Fire
  3. Shit In Your Cut
  4. Pistol (A. Cunanan, Miami, FL. 1996)
  5. Ansel
  6. The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box
  7. Coyotes
  8. Pups To Dust
  9. Sugar Boats
  10. Wicked Campaign
  11. Be Brave
  12. God Is An Indian And You're An Asshole
  13. The Tortoise And The Tourist
  14. The Best Room
  15. Of Course We Know

The bad news is, for unexplained reasons, the release date has been pushed back two weeks to March 17. This new release date will coincide with the band performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The first thing to note here, unless it's been retitled, is that Poison The Well appears to be the only song performed live from the past few years that does not appear to be on the album. This track however has not been performed since late 2012 though.

Pistol also appears to have a new title that seems to reference American spree killer Andrew Cunanan. However it's been pointed out that he died in 1997, not 1996, so that may be a typo.

Another interesting one is the track God Is An Indian And You're An Asshole. This song was only performed once back in July of last year, no footage surfaced of it, and it caused great confusion at the time if it was a new song or an alternative Bukowski. It has not been performed again.

The fan titled track Give It Enough may still be on the album, but under its official title. Time will tell.

Lastly, the press release also details a lot of the people that worked on the album, revealing that James Mercer is once again returning to perform back up vocals. On which tracks it's not made clear. Dann Gallucci is also making a return appearance. As is Ben Massaralla (who performed some percussion on The Moon And Antarctica), which was previously touched on back in 2013. The production team is also revealed to be Isaac Brock, Andrew Weiss, Tucker Martine, Clay Jones, and Brian Deck.

The 15 new, original songs of Strangers To Ourselves were recorded at Ice Cream Party in Portland, Oregon a recording studio owned and operated by Isaac Brock. Originally leased in mid 2012 and purchased in late 2012, Ice Cream Party began as a makeshift studio, with mattresses against the walls to insulate sound, and was slowly transformed into a professional workspace where the band finished mixing the album in early 2015. Strangers To Ourselves was produced by Isaac Brock with additional production by Andrew Weiss, Tucker Martine, Clay Jones, and Brian Deck. The album features founding drummer Jeremiah Green, and a wide cast of musical collaborators, including James Mercer, who returns to sing back-up vocals throughout the album, Tom Peloso, Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy), Dann Gallucci (The Cold War Kids), Russell Higbee (formerly of Man Man), Ben Massaralla (Red Red Meat), Lisa Molinaro (Talkdemonic), Davey Brozowski (The Catheters), and more.
