Modest Mouse working with Big Boi/Chris Carmouche, as well as covering Buddy Holly

It has recently come to light through a series of Tweets that Modest Mouse is working with Outkast member Big Boi, and producer Chris Carmouche on their new album.

Big Boi has been tweeting:

Me and @mouche1 in the studio workin with Modest Mouse on their new album Turnt up ! Shout out to Issac and the crew! (Apr 25)
Been camped out in the Lab with Modest Mouse all week, workin on the new mouse LP, coolest cats ever. Long Live The Funk (Apr 27)

While there is no official word on if Big Boi is producing, or perhaps providing vocals for the album, it is the first official confirmation that Modest Mouse is indeed working on a new album.

In other news, February's earlier rumour, of Modest Mouse working on a Buddy Holly cover, seems to have turned out to be true.

Modest Mouse will be covering "That'll Be the Day" on an upcoming tribute album entitled Rave On Buddy Holly, out June 28.

Inside the home of Isaac Brock and Glacial Pace, plus a new song

Isaac Brock's house (and Glacial Pace headquarters) are featured in Season II, Episode 5 of "Don't Move Here".

Isaac gives a tour of his home/studio, discusses his love of taxidermy, some home renovation tips, the bands that he's signing to Glacial Pace, and how the label came to be.

The episode ends with a short, partial performance from Modest Mouse, that features an as of yet, unreleased song. No mention though if this song is old or a new one being worked on for an upcoming album. Hopefully more will be cleared up when the band starts their short tour next month, should this song make its way onto set lists.

Debuting new material?

Nothing that hasn't been tossed around just before any tour before, but we are four years on from the release of We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, and a new album is presumed to be in the works.

A spokesperson for Modest Mouse indicated "there is no official info on a new album" at the time, but I wouldn't put it past Isaac Brock et al. to preview some new material live this Spring.

Joe Plummer also gets a mention in this article, for his drumming duties, and how he may have to juggle them this year between Modest Mouse, The Shins, and Mister Heavenly.

Modest Mouse heading back to Australia

Modest Mouse will be heading back to Australia this July for the Splendour in the Grass festival, taking place from July 29 - 31.

According to Modest Mouse's Facebook page, they will be performing on Saturday, July 30, but no word yet from the festival organizers if this is the day of the festival they will be performing on.

Side note: The ticketing page on Moshtix listing the lineup, has notes next to some bands stating whether the show is that band's only Australian show. There is nothing next to Modest Mouse's name, perhaps indicating that more Australian shows may be added.

World Gang donate a song to Japanese disaster relief

Jeremiah Green and Darrin Wiener have donated an unreleased track, entitled (8)copy, to a compilation album that has been put together by Japanese label 7e.p. 7e.p. will be donating all proceeds from the album to the victims of the recent Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

The title, 'Resume', which implies recovering and persevering, was the idea of 'Sweet Dreams' publisher Norio Fukuda. The cover artwork was provided by renowned Olympia, WA. artist Nikki McClure. Moreover, Masaki Tada, who has worked on albums by moools and many other 7e.p. albums, offered his mastering expertise.

The compilation will be part 1 of a 3 album set, that will include a total of 45 tracks from 43 artists hailing from America, Canada, Australia, the U.K., the Netherlands and Japan.

Volume 1 can now be pre-ordered for an April 11 release through iTunes for the low price of $6.99. Other artists assosciated with Modest Mouse include Wolf Parade and Figg (Robin Peringer).

All Smiles Vinyl Delays

A short update from Jim Fairchild regarding the status of the All Smiles Staylow And Mighty vinyl.

I am writing to apologize for the amount of time that it has taken to fill the orders for Staylow and Mighty vinyl.

I was waiting for my vinyl manufacturer who delayed the shipping date A LOT for this album. I am told I'll have everything by the end of next week and it will go straight out the door after that. I was hoping to ship everyone everything at the same time. Since I feel so bad about treating you guys, the people who are most supportive of us, with such unpunctual behavior, I promise to make it up to you by personally shipping you all a copy of something unique and special in the not too distant future. It will involve Aaron Burtch, for you Grandaddy fans. And some of it is being recorded early next week. The rest is finished. Okay, look for the shipment soon. Thank you for your patience! I really appreciate it. All the best,

Jim
